PAS vice-presidents Mahfuz Omar and Salahudin Ayub have appealed to deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa to have a face to face discussion with the party's revered spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat to clear up the air on the hotly disputed unity-talks issue.

Nasharuddin yesterday came under fire from Nik Aziz over his continued backing to hold unity talks with Umno.
A visibly upset Nik Aziz had asked Nasharuddin to leave the party and join Umno if he insisted on forging the talks with Umno.

Mahfuz urged Nasharuddin to be humble and meet Nik Aziz in order to calm down the situation and the anxiety that has been created, no matter how difficult it may be for him to do so.

He added that Nasharuddin had to do this for his own good.He said that as a young leader Nasharuddin should take Nik Aziz's comments in stride and look at it positively.

"I believe that (Nik Aziz) Tok Guru has no hatred towards Nasharuddin as a person. Tok Guru's statement is made out of love, just like how when a father occasionally beats his son, it is out of love for the son's future," Mahfuz told reporters in Parliament.

Mahfuz , who is the Pokok Sena member of parliament, also added that he had been unable to contact Nasharuddin. Bachok parliamentarian Nasharuddin was not in Parliament today.

The unity talks issue has caused a major division in PAS with party president Abdul Hadi Awang and Nasharuddin being the prime movers in support of holding such talks with Umno for the sake of national interest.

However other leaders, including Nik Aziz and former vice-president Husam Musa, have firmly stood against having any links with arch-rivals Umno.
